Inspired by Allie at Sundresses and Smiles, I've made my own cocktail umbrella wreath.

Love it!

There's nothing more summery than dining al fresco surrounded by friends in fun and fancy dresses.  Wouldn't you love to dine in one of these settings?

Summertime, and the Living Is Easy

Monday, June 13, 2011

I'm really into sunflowers lately.  I haven't by any means abandoned my signature lilies, but there's something summery and easy about sunflowers.

My sofa pillows came in and I love them!  I want to find two more, probably in a solid, but for now, I think the sofa looks much more polished.

My New Kitchen!

Sunday, June 12, 2011

Guess what I've been doing pretty much every day for the past two weeks?  What have I been talking about for months?

Turning this...

 And this...

INTO THIS!

"Ooooh."

"Aaaah."

I'm so proud of myself.  And I love my new kitchen.  I did almost all the work myself, though my mom painted the cabinets because I'm a super messy painter, which is bad news with oil paint.  The tiling, the grout, the removal of the wallpaper, the yellow paint on the walls, the new hardware and most of hinges ...ALL ME!

The Details
  • White subway tiles from Lowes
  • Mapei grout in Warm Grey from Lowes
  • Olympic oil semigloss paint from Lowes in Sherwin Williams' Dover White (on the cabinets)
  • Behr Premium paint plus primer in Sherwin Williams' Happy Yellow (on the walls)
Now that the grout has been sealed and the countertops vacuumed (grout is very messy), I can finally get my kitchen back together and out of the various rooms I've been storing it in (namely my bedroom and living room).  I still need to put up another shelf, but because that has to be painted with oil paint, I'm leaving that to my mom!

Tips
  • Wipe the excess tile adhesive off as soon as possible.  Don't let it dry and think it will be easier to scrape off once dry.  It won't be.
  • Make up a little bit of grout at a time.  It sets up and can get crumbly, which is bad news bears.
  • Put the grout in a little cup and then add A LITTLE water, mixing each time, until you get the right consistency.  I wasted an entire bag of grout after adding too much water and trying to thicken it up.
  • Make friends with the Lowes tile guy.  That way, when you have a U-shaped cut to make in your tile to go around your outlets, he'll do it for you, even though he's not supposed to.
  • Don't forget about outlet extenders if you're installing a backsplash on drywall.  The tiles add thickness to your walls and if you don't pull the outlets forward, they'll be recessed into the tile and look stupid.
I'm obsessed with my kitchen and can't wait to have people over to see it!  Admittedly, my flooring has hit a snag and isn't yet installed, but more about that at a later date.  It steams me up too much, and I'm in too fine a mood!

Anyone else done any exciting projects lately?  Tell me about them!

Rue La La's Lilly Sale II

Friday, June 10, 2011

I wasn't as excited as I was over Rue La La's Lilly sale today as I was last time, though I did buy a couple of dresses.  The prices were fantastic, though, which explains why I got two different dresses this time!

The Bowen in Frisky Business - Spring 2010

I haven't bought a Bowen in a long time, and I can't remember why.  Hopefully it isn't because I decided I didn't like the way they fit.  It was 66% off, which is understandable since it's a year old.  But it's new to me!  :)

UPDATE (7/5): Yeah, it was because I don't like the way they fit.  Back to Rue La La it went!

Worth Shift in Giddy Up - Spring 2010

I bought this dress in two sizes because Lilly's shifts are usually wonky on me, with my hips and chest.  Hopefully one will fit off the hanger or can be tailored to fit, otherwise they'll both go back, which would make me sad because I love the Giddy Up print.  I have a Bel Air in Carson's Grand Stand Patch, and I just love it.  I used to be so in to horses and horse racing, that both of these prints are natural fits for me.  Again, at 66% off, it was too good to pass up!

What about y'all?  Did y'all get away with any fabulous deals?

P.S.  I linked up with Kori over at Fashion Fridays!  If you're like me and love clothes, hop on over, check out fabulous fashion, and maybe make a new blog pal or two!

Shopping for Sofa Pillows

Sunday, June 5, 2011

I have come to the conclusion I have neither the time nor the motivation to make my own pillows, so I've turned to Etsy.  Here's my inspiration photo:

This is the look I'm going for, except in yellow.  I'd like to stay under $75 for all my pillows.  Here are some of my finds that I'm considering:

Okay, friends.  Pretend we're standing in the pillow store with these on the floor and you're helping me choose.  Which should I get?

HELP!
